Last week we made a little trip to the North of Scotland. It does not happen very often we both get away from the business, often our romantic getaways are attending trade fairs.
We drove to Ullapool after lunch and visited the lovely Seafood Shack where we enjoyed a delicious early dinner. This is run by wives of local fishermen and the food is delicious. They won the BBC Food & Farming awards in 2017 and it is no surprise why.
After picking up supplies for a picnic from the wonderful West Coast Deli in Ullapool in the morning we drove further North. West Coast Deli is a real gem, they have the most delicious range of delicatessen, a fabulous cheese counter and make a fantastic sandwich with our venison salami.
We visited the remote Sandwood Bay only accessible by a 4 mile walk. The long walk was certainly worth it, and we enjoyed the delicious picnic from West Coast Deli on the beach watching the waves crashing ashore.
There are also a few other fantastic beaches nearby. Oldshoremore and Polin are closer to the road just before the carpark to Sandwood Bay. The beaches all have beautiful white sands and clear seas surrounded by huge dramatic coast line and we couldn’t resist a refreshing swim.
We stayed the night at Eddrachiles hotel located on the shores of Badcall Bay. Our room was a bit dated and due a new bathroom but the setting and food made up for it. Lovely to see our venison salami as a starter that evening. The stunning bay was perfect for an early morning swim before breakfast.
On our way home the next morning we called in to the Falls of Shin visitor centre where Mac and Wild have opened a fantastic cafe. We would love to come back to one of their pop up suppers in a wonderful setting.
The area we visited is part of the North Coast 500 and has become very popular over the last few years. Accommodation gets booked up pretty quickly so plan well in advance.
